Just got done playing Kinect Sports... Wow! I know I am out of shape, but that was ridiculous, I bowled 2 games first, then boxed for 3 matches, then did a Track & Field cycle. Tired, a tad sweaty and my bad knee is HURTING. Must say however...it was very fun. Had to rearrange the TV room to barely have enough room to play this. The Kinect needs it's room to play. So worth it though...this is an awesome device, that I will be using quite a bit. Hope now they bring some shooter games in to take advantage of the device and put head-tracking into the games.

Currently my eldest and his female best friend (both 10) played 2 games of soccer with both on the same team...they won both games. Lots of jumping, screams of joy, and celebration happening in the living room.
This is THE best gift I could have gotten them for this season. ...so what if it is early...

How much room does it actually need? I'm greenlighted on the purchase, but we only have about 7 feet from tv to couch and not a lot of configuration options (n=1).
What's the real world experience? From what I've been reading it seems like I won't have enough room, and that will make this an instant bust.

My room has only about 6 - 7 feet at most and both my eldest and his best friend are able to play together...it does tell them to step back at times, when they get too close, but we just have enough room. I think you should be fine.

So how's this thing after about a week in? Any other thoughts now that it's a part of the family? Just curious. I'd also like to see some of the other games that come out. While Dance Central looks good, it's not something that I would find myself getting into, unless there's a lot of moshing and stage diving, I mean, that could be cool.

So I am thinking of getting an Xbox Kinect setup for the family this Christmas. Looking at the packages, they have the 250GB and 4GB setups. Do I really need the 250GB, and can I just install a bigger hard drive myself down the road?

Do I really need the 250GB, and can I just install a bigger hard drive myself down the road? I know you asked a long time ago, but as an original 360 owner, I have the 20GB drive, and it's not enough. I have moved onto a 16GB USB drive for further stuff. Not even counting buying Arcade games, DLC for games takes up a lot of room. Rock Band songs alone take up over 2GB. And by the way, it's a 20GB drive, with about 14GB usable out of the box (Xbox system files and formatting eat up a chunk). You can't install your own custom hard drive like you can on a PS3. If you want to expand your space, you either have to buy an expensive official drive from Microsoft, or use up to a 16GB USB flash drive (you can use larger drives but the 360 only sees 16GB). Also note the drive must be fast enough to use or the 360 will reject it, so you have to do research on if a drive is fast enough for lots of data access. So my advice is to go for the 250GB, but I can understand saving $100. 16GB flash drives are getting cheaper and cheaper (got a fast one 2 months ago for $25), so maybe the 4GB is enough for now. Just be warned: the amount of stuff you buy on the marketplace may surprise you. Little $5 purchases add up. I've been wanting to get a 250GB Kinect bundle just to transfer over my stuff, but I can't justify buying a whole system when I already have one...

Well last week, I bit the bullet and picked up one of the few remaining 4GB Xbox+Kinect bundles, along with Dance Central for the wife and Kinectimals for the kids. I did consider the 250GB, but those were all sold out. I'm not too worried about upgrading at the moment, but will look into it down the road. I'm itching to try out the dern thing as it sits in the closet waiting for the 25th

Are you sure he didn't use one of the ones Microsoft sells though? The new ones look like little black hard drives and they are internal.
Still pretty sure you can't just fit any old hard drive into the new 360s... short of hacking firmware of course.

I'll PM you BBB, i tore apart my wife's external drive haha, but an old Xbox drive would work also IMO. Works fine and was a lot cheaper *edit* Zero's vid is probably the same, but if you want it in writing as well: Microsoft's "Official" drive DIY

My eldest still plays this with his best friend when she is over and his cousin...and last sunday night, my wife stated "dammit, gotta get off my @$$", and turned on the 360, and loaded up dance central and 'danced' for over 2 hours...was most fun watching her...

Friends of the family brought us over one tonight. The jury's still out, but man they aren't kidding when they said you need a lot of room. We'll play with it this week and i'll post my thoughts. The hardware is pretty damn cool I must say.
