Why aren't you using Source Recorder? Then you can record at mega graphics quality, and without the fraps logo.

^ Also, what Earl said. You could make replays, or if you don't like replays, record source demos. It'll also be less of a performance hit, and it won't eat up as much hard drive space as you're playing. You can then crank up the graphics and really render out some pretties.
