East coast has earthquake... 5000 men take credit.

The best quote from a West coaster I saw was "5.8? We use a 5.8 quake to stir our coffee".

Virginia, we will rebuild!

Everyone I know was going absolutely insane flipping out. People in my town, down the street from me swearing they felt the quake. Idiots. They even closed some building near us. Every local news station in CT was on special coverage, special experts in to explain, little brother terrified it was the work of Gadhafi. Idiots.

I was in UC Santa Cruz during the big loma prieta quake in '89. I remember holding on to the metal frame of the huge double doors to my dorm, and watching the the ground in front of me move in waves like water, and the big glass window of the cafeteria maybe 50 yards away oscillating in and out like a giant soap bubble till it shattered.

Needless to say it scared the crap out of a lot of students, and many left the school never to return to the west coast.

Yep, the end is nigh. Harold Camping will probably get a huge influx of followers just in time for October.

Well now that you've WestCoasters have had all your fun, it's time to be serious. Those of us here who have survived are not in the clear yet. As I type a Hurricane named Irene is barreling towards us and we are still rebuilding in CT after the last natural disaster. I get that some may find it funny at our reactions but I ask you WestCoasters, when was the last time you've been rocked by a hurricane after suffering a 5.8 megaquake? Yeah that's what I thought. I have never been more terrified then when I heard that some of my Aunts books fell off the sideboard. Does your insurance cover trauma like that? I didn't think so. Next time you find yourself laughing ask yourself, "How you I feel if that had been my lawn chair?", or "What would I do in that situation". For shame West Coast.

lol. No local news stations are showing anything but the "hurricane" (which happens to be move in day for almost all CT state universities, gonna have me some fun) or the megaquake (lol). Many people I know have talked of nothing but the quake, that's all I see on facebook, "Did you feel the quake" is the Northeast's icebreaker of 2011, and all it makes me want to do is escape the stupidity. :beep:

If I manage to survive the hurricane I'll keep y'all informed of the rebuilding process............... and ask for donations. lol

Right on leading!

I've been ?fortunate? enough to live in the four corners of the US; Michigan, Florida, New York, California. Everyplace seems to have its fair share of potential natural calamity.

hmm. I'm sitting on laptop on Long Island right now. I have lived here through many hurricanes and I certainly will through this one. I remember going in my brothers pickup truck rescuing people in flooded water all over town.

And I've spent the last 16+ years living in Los Angeles during many earthquakes.

Spend less time comparing fear and more time wondering what you'll do to help your fellow man if they need it.

There's always going to be someone who has lived through more than you.

For anyone who thinks we're laughing..it's at the sheer drama and spectacle... please keep breathing and prepare instead of worry.. You'll be one less person who needs rescuing.
