lol, yeah I heard the stats were close to 90% men. But I don't see that from the posts I see, lots of participation from women. I heard an estimate that there are already 10 million G+ users.
I'd say the three biggest things Google needs to do for the service is 1) get search going so it's easier to find people who share interests, 2) refine when comments "bump" a post to the top of your stream to reduce the "spammy" feel of it (and auto-collapse comments), and 3) support at least one level of sub-comment so you can reply to a comment and not just the original post.
