Anyone ever been a Big Brother?

And no not that damn tv show. I hear it's something like 4 hours per month for a year, easy for me and certainly a place for me to focus my energies.

Any of you guys ever do this or know anyone who has?

Done, need to schedule an interview now. It's a little intimidating to be honest. But as for the urge, it's not a fleeting thing. I've considered this for a few years but my coworker just suggested it today as an alternative to a nonprofit I was considering.

My fathers old police partner was one when we were kids. I remember him bringing the kid along on a few camping trips with us. Just a little heads up if you take him camping. City kids don't know the dangers of trying to catch a racoon with a pillow case. It was a great experience for that kid. I don't think he would have ever been out to see anything without Sonny. That was also the trip when we heard over the radio that Elvis had died .

My sister is a Big Sister and her "little" is someone we hang with sometimes when there's a family get together. When she's around, she's treated as a member of the family. Normally these kids need something they aren't getting from family, so it really helps if the Big Bros and SIsters are open minded about all things (religion, sexual orientation...).

I gotta schedule the appointment for an interview, hopefully next Friday. My wife is concerned that I'm too stressed out right now to take this on, so I'll definitely need to consider it over the next couple weeks to make sure I can do it. Last thing I'd ever wanna do is take some young person under my wing, then be inattentive or give them a bad vibe. That would be very bad.

I envision it going just like you say Gel. I watch MMA events every couple weeks or so with buddies and family (and my teenage nephew that I keep in line), if I were matched with a kid that's into MMA it would be perfect.

I'll keep you guys posted on it. As I told my wife, I talk a big game wrt my desire to help people, time for me to step up and out of the crystal palace to actually do it. This ain't just giving some money or correcting some grammar, this is serious

Finally had the interview, now they gotta check background and all that. Sounds like it takes a couple months before everything is finalized with a match.
