url resolution

Sun Jul 10, 2011 1:14 pm

okay, this may be something i just have to wait on but it's kinda weird to me.

I pointing a domain of mine at a weebly site I had created. I then decided to switch to a self-hosted wordpress site with 1and1 internet.

So, i made the appropriate changes to the IP config and all. If you go to

http://thehandsondad.com

you get the site I WANT to come up.

however, if you go to

http://www.thehandsondad.com (simply adding the www. )

you get the OLD site that is now "unpublished"

WTF? anyone?

when did you make the change? sometimes it takes a little while for the new address to make it around to all the internet servers.

fyi, when I click the links I get the same one from both now.

The IP for thehandsondad.com is 74.208.83.199
The IP for www.thehandsondad.com is 199.34.228.100

Since they are different URLs they each have their own IP assignment. You need to make sure they are the same, or once you get to those IPs they take you to the same machine.

still having an issue...Ash, are you sure you're getting the same site from both links? when i resolve the url names they resolve to the same IP # but they don't come up as the same web site (and I have cleared the cache, etc several times).

If I go to "www.thehandsondad.com" it now immediately redirects me to "thehandsondad.com"

Both address take me to the same site (your new one, I was on the old site this morning so I see the difference). Usually it takes 24 hours for DNS to resolve worldwide. On your computer have you flushed DNS (ipconfig /flushdns)?
