KEYBOARD Malfunction..

quick question for a good PC hardware guy...

My left shift key is creating a vertical bar occasionally (much more frequently than I would like). When I hit my "left shift" key I get a " | " symbol. Very annoying.

|Steps I've tried unsuccessfully to fix the problem.....

1. uninstall/reinstall keyboard drivers.
2. multiple configurations with the sticky keys including completely disabling them.
3. uninstalling then unplugging keyboard and starting PC and forcing it to ask for one.

I've searched online and suggestions seem to be far and few.

Sounds like a hardware problem -- shift is also triggering your backslash key.

Yea, a few things ive read say hardware issue within the keyboard.... Guess Ill break down and buy a new one.
